Springing from the video concept presented at The Historic New Orleans Collection's exhibit, “Shout, Sister, Shout: The Boswell Sisters of New Orleans,” Spit Curl Productions® continues its quest to seek out modern artists from around the world who perform Boswell arrangements or somehow utilize the Boswell Sound & Style in their music. Through a variety of presentation methods, including CD & DVD production, educational events, concerts & festivals, publications, promotions, and more, Spit Curl’s mission is to further awareness of the important contribution of the Boswell Sisters to the world of music while serving as a clearing house for artists who perpetuate the highly influential Boswell Sound. Spit Curl Productions is powered by the Vet Boswell Family Collection, LLC.
Spit Curl Productions began its mission with a video production featuring music from Spain, Australia, Quebec, Vancouver, Brooklyn, Sacramento, Los Angeles, Portland and, of course, New Orleans. Its first CD was released on September 10, 2014 featuring the above artists, many of whom (and many more, including The Hazelnuts from Jerusalem, YazooZazz from Washington, D.C., Duchess from New York City, and Banu Gibson and pianists David Boeddinghaus and Harry Mayronne, Jr. of New Orleans) will be joining Spit Curl Productions at THNOC (October 9-11) and Music at the Mint (October 10) for a once-in-a-lifetime cultural exchange event, held exactly 100 years after the Boswell family landed on New Orleans soil. The rest, of course, is and will be history.
